Very Important Purpose
ANDRES HIDALGO

In our lives we meet hundreds of people, but then you meet ONE person who changes your life forever. That special person is Andres, who at age 15, he was diagnosed with Leukemia.
This illness, has stolen the hopes of many patients with the disease. Yet, it has turned Andres into a young man with a stronger spirit, a student eager to become a pediatrician so he can help others, but above all, a human being that appreciates the support of his family and friends.
Here is what he told VIP305 in the interview.

Who has been your biggest support through all of this?
Well, my mom was always my biggest supporter. Every day that I had treatment she would come with me, whenever I had to stay overnight or long periods in thehospital, she was always there with me, in the bed next to me. She was basically my number one supporter.
What advice would you give to teenager that are or may have to undergo the same situations you went through?
The most important thing is to have faith and strong group of friends; because your friends are really the ones thatmake you feel better, even on the days that you feel the worst. Even if they come visit you for an hour, you just forgetthat you have cancer for that hour and you feel like your’re normal and still part of them.
How important is it for people to have a spiritual, familial and emotional support system during treatment?
It’s very important, even if for a brief moment someone comes to you in friendship, you feel like you’re normal. As far asspiritual support, without God I really believe that I wouldn’t be here today, that’s also very important to me. Sometimesthere are tough days; especially with some of the medications it affects your emotions too. I really think is important to govisit anyone who is undergoing treatment.
Could you give a brief introduction for our readers about you, your family, and your interests and hobbies?

It was very shocking for my family becauseI had never until that moment broken a bone or even gone to a hospital for anything major. We really didn’t know what cancer was or what to expect, but we alwayshad hope that I would get better.
What encouraging words would you have for those who have a family member or very close friend suffering from cancer?
Keep your faith, not only in the doctors but in your God and friends. Keep on fighting, this is a disease but you can leavewith it.
What do you like to do on your free time?
I’ve learned to enjoy life a little more now, so whenever I can, I go out with my friends. I really love watching movies andreading books.
What’s your favorite sport?
Volleyball, for sure.
What do you want to study after your graduation from HighSchool?
