My American Dream

My name is Juan Barrera. I'm a senior in high school with hopes of one day achieving my dream to become a veterinarian! All my life I've loved animals. This has been my dream since I can remember! But.... There's one problem. I'm undocumented..At the age of 10 I was brought to this country by my parents, life had been good until now.. Senior year. This year is when I realized my situation. I cannot receive any government scholarships, financial aid, or even in-state tuition in college! I'm viewed as an international student which makes tuition 4x the cost for residents. I can't get a job, which makes it almost impossible to raise money. I can't get a license which makes mobilization very difficult. I'm an active member of my high school's FFA chapter and about 4x a week I go do my vet internship hours at Ferreira Animal Hospital so that I can get certified as a Veterinary Assistant. THE REASON why I'm here is to ask for your help, I have found out that I fall under the deferred action program but sadly my parents can't afford the fee which is $935 for me to apply. I've tried everything I can but since I can't get a job and my parents earn just enough it's hard to come up with this kind of money. The rest of the money will go for attorney costs and college applications. Thank you for your time.

The mission to "Live Like Bella" continues. This amazing girl has achieved more in her short life than many of us can do in a lifetime. She has become an icon of hope, because that is how she lived her life; giving beautiful smiles and hope to people around her. After her departure, she left her family a huge challenge, BIG shoes to fit, and that is to continue her mission.

Today "Live Like Bella" foundation is funding Pediatric cancer research of novel, non toxic treatments for a cure. They provide in treatment assistance to families with recreational support, and they assist families with the purchase of a headstone or urn in the tragic event their child passes away.

Possible Dream Foundation

The Possible Dream Foundation strives to improve the quality of life of children and adults with Down syndrome and other disabilities by providing a loving home, a caring family and an understanding environment where individuals can reach their full potential.

Meet Michael and Camille Geraldi, a husband-and-wife, doctor-and-nurse duo who put their heart into everything they do. The Geraldis’ story starts in 1986 at Miami Children’s Hospital, where Camille sat by the bedside of critically ill children who had been abandoned. Here, Michael found Camille night after night, long after her shifts had ended, reading to the children or just holding their hands. Camille started bringing these kids home with her—the ones whom hospital staff could do nothing more for—and told Michael this was what she wanted to do with her life.Family MattersAfter Michael and Camille married, they started adopting children with Down syndrome, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy. Some had autism, developmental disabilites and extreme facial deformations. People would drop them off on the Geraldis’ doorstep with nothing but a note—or no word at all. Eighteen adoptions and three healthy birth children later, Camille and Dr. Mike, as he’s called, were running a nonprofit, then called the Up With Down Syndrome Foundation.
