casual look.
This famous celebrity fashion designer shared her thoughts and her tips with VIP-305
in this exclusive interview conducted by Olivia Rodriguez.
VIP: When did you realize your passion for designing?
ROSITA: Since I could remember, around 8 years old I did my first piece. I used to get
together with my neighborhood friends; I will do their makeup, dress them up and
practice the fashion show. When I turned 17 I discovered fashion designing as a pro-
fession. I did everything to go to Paris and began studying fashion designing.
VIP: Who encourage you to go for your passion?
ROSITA: My mother was a designer, she was born with inclination for fashion, and she used to design my outfits. I had close aunts that were famous at sewing in my town, so I will see what they’ve done and I liked it. My mother supported me and encouraged me to be in this profession.
VIP: Who are some of your favorite designers that you admire?
ROSITA: The one that I admire the most is Elie Saab, a Lebanese fashion designer. I also love the elegance of the clothing of Giorgio Armani, and Dolce and Gabbana which is more modern and juvenile.
VIP: We consider you not just a designer but an Artist, What do you like best about designing clothes?
ROSITA: I love the detail on the clothing; I like to shape the body of the women, making the clothing perfect for them.
VIP: We love how you mix your fashion style with your culture. Where do you get your inspirations?
ROSITA: My country is very rich in culture. The other face of Bolivia is unknown globally which is the “Oriental”. That’s why I decided to show the whole world my culture in my casual clothing line for its diversity and richness.
VIP: What advice do you have for young aspiring fashion designers?
ROSITA: First of all you have to know clearly what you want in life, nothing in life is difficult if you pursue it. You have to prepare yourself, study, you could be born with a talent but that’s not it. Work hard and know that dreams come true, just dream and follow them.
VIP: What are some of your favorite pieces of your collections and who had the honor to wear it?
ROSITA: There’s lot of Latin artist that I’m dressing at this moment. Celebrities like Eva Longoria for the movie Carlita’s Secret, which I did the whole wardrobe. Lucia Mendez’s wedding gown which was known around the world. I am in almost all the red carpets, with best dress artist such as Gaby Espino, Danna Garcia, Marjorie de Sousa, Sonia smith, Ximena Duque, a lot of actresses and singers. Not only women but also men such as William Levi, Carlos Ponce, Christian de la Fuente, Pedrito Fernandez and Julian Elias.
VIP: People’s magazine named you one of the 25 most powerful women next to Jennifer Lopez, Sophia Vergara and others. Do you feel like you’ve accomplish all your goals in life?
ROSITA: For me the power is to help others. I think what People en espanol saw in me is the power to influence others, the power to be an example to follow. I donate through my fashion shows, plus the benefit organization that I have called “Latin Angels” that helps many other institutions like kids with cancer and homeless people.
VIP: You are one of the kindnesses, sweetest and humble person that we had the pleasure to meet. What advice do you have for those who changed because of fame?
ROSITA: I think there’s no reason to change, everyone is the same. Being famous is for the type of job you have, there are very successful people that aren’t famous. I think being humble opens lots of doors. Keep always your essence. The more famous, powerful or money you have, the person must be more kind, more accessible to other people. I don’t see the reason to change if you’re famous. I’ve seen artist that have changed and others that haven’t. Sometimes the people around them change. I think the change should be to be a better person.
VIP: You’re an example for everyone, helping others in different ways. What tips would you like to tell the young community?
ROSITA: I think the young community should listen to grownups a little more. Just because your young don’t believe you can do anything you want. Be respectful towards others and go on the right path. Be an example and surround yourself with people that will take you far.
VIP: What advice can you tell the young community that is waiting for an immigration reform?
ROSITA: Don’t give up, keep going, and keep trying without violence. Your voice will be heard, fight for something that will benefit others. Just keep your head up and pursue your believes.
VIP: If you can imagine a perfect place to raise your kids, where would that be?
ROSITA: There’s not perfect paradise to raise your kids, I think the perfect place is your home. Your home is the education you give your kids, how you raise them, how you want your kids to be useful in society.
VIP: How important is the support of parents to teenagers?
ROSITA: I think is very important. Know how to communicate with your kid, know what they do, who are they friends. Create a friendship with your kid, that’s the key to have a good responsible kid. Always guide them.
VIP: Do you have any advice for kids that are being bully?
ROSITA: Don’t stay quiet, don’t fear to inform someone. We’ve seen lots of kids that committed suicide because of bullying and now we don’t have the power to help them. Don’t be scared, let people know what’s going on so they can find the way to help you.
