Very Important Purpose
Skateboard madness
The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
The fast, fun, danger sport of Skateboarding is increasing its popularity among young people in South Miami.
Skateboards may be banned in many places like malls, parking lots, and certain sidewalks, yet our friends from the North Trail Park welcome these Columbus and Belen students as they practice their tricks every weekend.

VIP 305 interviewed Roy Cora and Chris Austin to learn more about this dangeraous sport.
Do you know who invented skateboarding?
CHRIS: No, but the man who really invented most of the tricks was Rodney Mullen.
Who's your favorite skateboarder?
CHRIS: Torrey Pudwill
ROY: Shane O’neill
Where can you go skateboarding here in Miami?
CHRIS: Where I live there aren’t any parks close and there are not a lot of street spots but downtown and South Beach are really some of the best places for street skating.
ROY: Anywhere, skate parks and downtown are the best places though
When did you start skateboarding?
ROY: November 2012
What’s your first memory of skating?
ROY: My first board
Is skateboarding dangerous?
CHRIS: Yes for sure.
ROY: Super
What about fashion is there a “skater look”?
CHRIS: Too me there is, I like to wear light brown pants with a cool graphic tee and the occasional hat.
ROY: Nope, it’s however you want to look
Have you had any accidents skateboarding ?
CHRIS: Nothing serious just a sprained wrist and few road rashes.
ROY: Fractured my ankle but that’s about it
Are you a good student ?
CHRIS: I get As and Bs
ROY: Straight A’s
What is your favorite subject?
CHIRS & ROY: Math.
Do you know any skateboarding girls ?
CHRIS: Yes, I do and I think that’s the coolest thing when girls skate.
How do you think our Miami community looks upon to the skateboarders?
CHRIS: In my opinion, we are looked down upon. The community thinks that most skaters for start are delinquents and drop outs. We are just a few kids that have a passion. We may get loud and go into private properties, but hey if you build a perfect skate spot then that’s your fault.
ROY: I think they just look at us as annoyances but my opinion is that we shouldn’t get in trouble for skateboarding as a basketball player shouldn’t get in trouble for playing on a basketball court.
