The school just started, but few months ago the top two 8th grades of Saint Agatha School, graduating class 2013 were announced.
We would like to congratulate valedictorian Lucas Venegas and salutatorian Hannah Dopico on all of their accomplishments.
But who are these outstanding students? The following interview is to get to know the Saint Agatha 2013 valedictorian and salutatorian a little better.

Where are you from?
Lucas: I was born in the United States of America, but my culture is from Chile.
Hannah: I was born here in Miami, Florida but my parents are from Cuba.
What is your most embarrassing moment in Middle School?
Lucas: I really don’t recall any major embarrassing moment in my middle school years.
Hannah: I've never really felt embarrassed in school because its pretty hard to make me feel embarrassed so I'm not really sure.
Thinking back to your 8th grade year, describe your experience coming into a new school where you knew no one.
Lucas: My experience coming into a new school was very different to what I was used to. It involved meeting new people which is a challenge I had to face, but I have come to meet lots of new friendships I would have never thought of.
Hannah: My most rewarding experience would either being named my class salutatorian or being the cross country team's most valuable player.
What teacher has made the most impact on your academic life and why?
Lucas: Well I really don’t think I have one teacher that impacted most of my life but I do have many teachers that have. My fifth grade teacher for example Mrs. Mendoza was the first one to teach me how to become a more responsible and independent person. Then my Theology teacher Mrs. Veciana by revealing to me God in a deeper perspective. Another teacher that really impacted me was my English teacher Mrs. Jewett by showing me how to write in a more professional and formal matter. Also my Science teacher Mrs. Delgado by teaching me all there is to science. Indeed, my Literature teacher Mrs. Novoa by showing me how to look deeper into the meanings of books and guiding me to become a responsible, well rounded person. Finally, my Algebra teacher Mrs. Diaz by making complicated algebra equations look so easy!
Hannah: The teacher who has made the biggest impact on my academic life would be my third grade teacher, Mrs. Gonzalez, because she was a great person and she made learning in our classroom very fun. She has been very sick for many years and I am still praying for her.
What are your future plans at your new school “Belen Jesuit Preparatory School” and “Our Lady of Lourdes”?
Lucas: My future plans at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School is to keep doing well in school, meet new people, play sports, and most importantly maintain my relationship with God.
Hannah: In my new school, I plan to try get the best grades that I can, make a lot of new friends, join a few clubs, and just make the best of it.
What advice would you give fellow students?
Lucas: I'd like to challenge my fellow classmates. The next four years should be the best years of their lives, and then again, they could be the worst. They are freshmen and everyone knows that the freshmen are the first targets of almost all the high school bullies and pranksters. But remember, you guys will be upperclassmen one day and that far outweighs the challenges of making it to the top, so give it your best and stick it out. The decisions you make in high school can greatly affect the rest of your life. If you make wise choices, chances are you will have a great life, and vice-versa.
What is your favorite sport?
Lucas: Tennis
Hannah: Gymnastics
What is your hobby?
Lucas: Playing sports and socially interacting with people
Hannah: After school, I usually go and practice gymnastics. I am planning on joining clubs at school, too.
Who was your best friend in middle school and why?
Lucas: To tell you the truth I really didn’t have one best friend, but many good friends in my middle school years. The reason is because each one of them taught me something different and formed me to the person I am today.
Hannah: I had many best friends in middle school and I can't just name one. I would usually hang out with my friends Veronica Briceño, Tiffany Guerrero, Regina Lozano, Victoria Someillan, and Natalia Rabassa. They were sme of my closest friends because we had a lot of common interests and liked to do the same things.
What was the hardest decision that you ever made?
Lucas: The hardest decision I had to encounter in my life is choosing what high school I was going to go to.
Hannah: I've never really had a to make really hard decision in my life but I guess the hardest decision I had to make was when I was running a cross country race and I was feeling really sick and I didn't know if I should have stopped running or kept on going.
